Can I book in to see you for a second opinion?
If you have been diagnosed with an illness, it is common that patients will seek the opinion of a second medical professional. This can help to reassure you and ensure that all of your treatment options have been shared with you. For example one doctor may say that you need surgery, however a second doctor may have a second treatment option that is less invasive.
We are happy for patients to come and see us for a second opinion. This may be because you want confirmation that a diagnosis or treatment plan that you have been given elsewhere is right for you, or because you have been unhappy with treatment that you have received or that has been proposed elsewhere.
It is very common that patients wish to seek a second opinion and at London Men’s Clinic, we believe that it is very important for all patients to feel that they have explored all avenues before settling on a particular treatment course.
We are also always happy to refer our patients for a second opinion, either to another specialist within our group or elsewhere for extra peace of mind.
On some occasions where patients are diagnosed with a rare or complex condition, they may need the second opinions from a number of experts to ensure that their final treatment plan is the best for their condition. In some instances patients decide to travel to different clinics around the world to ensure that they see a doctor that has a strong understanding of how to treat their specific condition.

Preparing for a second opinion appointment
If you are coming to see us for a second opinion appointment then it is important for you to bring as much clinical information with you when you come, even if this has been sent by your own specialist or GP.
This will include details of any treatments already given, the results of blood tests, urine tests, scans (including ultrasound, CT, MRI, and bone scans), and any pathology results. We can arrange for any pathology to be reviewed by our own specialist urological pathologist, and any scans or X-rays by our own urological radiologists. Please bring the scans with you, either in their X-ray packet or on a CD.
